A frozen line is a symptom
Flow conditions, a low spot, pipe settlement, cover and insulation can all be relevant to a site assessment. A restriction or freezing problem does not automatically mean the full pipe run needs replacing.
Describe where the problem occurs, when it returns and what has already been done. Findings from a plumber or other appropriate provider help identify whether excavation is part of a lasting repair.
Where excavation may enter the picture
A confirmed damaged or settled section may need exposing and replacing. The repair then needs to address the relevant support, bedding, alignment and frost-protection requirements for that site.
BC’s Standard Practice Manual discusses pipe bedding, support and protection from frost. It does not justify giving every Prince George property one fixed depth or insulation prescription without site information.
Before calling about a machine job
- Have the problem location and any diagnosis available.
- Explain previous freezing and any temporary work already completed.
- Send system plans and access photos if available.
- Ask for the permanent buried-work scope to be separated from thawing or blockage clearing.
